Service times, directions, and what to expect when you visit First Presbyterian Church

Getting to know each other

We know meeting someone for the first time can be intimidating, and going to a new church for the first time can be nerve-racking. We want to help make your first experience at First Presbyterian Church a great one!

First Presbyterian Church meets every Sunday and offers two service times to choose from:

  • SUMMER 2020: Due to Covid19, we currently have one service on Sunday mornings at 10am. It is available online via Zoom livestream. Beginning on June 14 the sanctuary will also be open on a limited basis for in person attendance. The service is 45 minutes long, and features a blend of traditional and contemporary elements. We hope to resume our normal schedule (below) in the fall.
  • The 9:00am worship service meets in the small chapel, and features contemporary music led by our praise band, prayers in modernized language, and a thoughtful, bible-based sermon by Pastor Neal.
  • The 11:00am worship service meets in the large sanctuary, and features traditional hymns led by our magnificent pipe organ (the largest in El Paso), a seasonal choir, traditional prayers, and a thoughtful, bible-based sermon by Pastor Neal.

First Presbyterian Church is located at 1340 Murchison Dr., near the intersection of Brown and Murchison. You can find us on Google Maps by clicking here.

What can I expect?

How long is a HOPE CHURCH service?

In total, a worship service at First Presbyterian Church is about 60 minutes in length. Services begin with the "chiming of the hour" from our children's handbell ringers, followed by a few songs and a few prayers. All words to prayers and songs are projected onto the screens so you can follow along and/or join in however you feel most comfortable. After a short time of greeting one another, our pastor will read a scripture passage and preach a thoughtful, inspiring and biblically-based message. On the first Sunday of each month, we observe the sacrament of the Lord's Supper, in which all people are welcome to participate, regardless of membership status, faith background, or belief.

What's the culture like at First Presbyterian Church?

Sundays at First Presbyterian Church are exciting, casual, and relaxed. Come as you are and expect to feel welcomed as our guest.

What about my kids?

We believe in the sacred dignity and worth of every child, and that learning about God should be fun and exciting. We also take your children’s safety very seriously. Because of this, we have a detailed check-in process for our children's program the first time that you visit. You’ll want to leave yourself an extra ten minutes to get signed in if your children are preschool aged or younger. Children in grades 1-6 begin worship in the service with their parents, and generally leave before the sermon for our Godly Play program (a Montessori-like approach to experiencing Bible stories). They are then returned to the sanctuary before the end of the service.
